I work a lot. Days, nights, weekends, and everything in between. And I love it.
I'm also a hopeless romantic and a huge fan of Hallmark movies. I like to have them playing in the background when I work.
If you're not familiar with Hallmark movies, here's a quick summary.
The movies have similar themes and plots. A woman visits a new place or goes on vacation to a place where everyone knows each other and gets along. Most of the time there are small business owners involved in the plot. The woman meets a man that she knew from her past or finds a new man that conveniently is "assigned" to help her. They hang out for a few days, leading up to a big event...like a wedding, a baking contest, or a festival. In a short period of time, they share moments when they can see into each other's souls.
The moment they are about to kiss is always interrupted by a phone call or a dog barking. The caller is offering a new job opportunity or asking the woman to travel back home. While they are apart, family and friends share their perspectives to help them realize the opportunity in front of them is LOVE.
These Hallmark movies are a lot like my business. WHAT? Stay with me. Here's why:
I love my clients and believe in their missions. They are cared for and treated with respect. There's a feeling of comfort when you work with me. Like a cozy blanket or a pair of soft slippers.
There is usually an event involved...a course, a retreat, a conference, a workshop, a webinar that we are coordinating or promoting online.
There are always ups and downs...challenges and crazy situations that surface, but we navigate how to get through it together.
Unlike the Hallmark movies, there might be a tad more cussing and sarcastic remarks in my business. My team is not a collection of hot actors, but they are hard-working contractors that I appreciate, especially when they laugh at my jokes.
Either way, things tend to work out in the end.
And here's a picture to explain another reason WHY I like Hallmark movies so much.
